Here is my fourth favourite 🙂
Song No.4 – Overload by Sugababes
I discovered this song in a DVD song collection that I got. I like the pace of the song, the music and the singers (one of them is English, another is Jamaican and another is Filipino, making a real rainbow). I also like the way the video is produced – simple-style with a white background. I don’t know many people who have heard this song. I don’t know why. Because it is really nice.
The strange and sad thing is that the three original singers of the band are no longer part of it now and there are three new singers now. I can’t understand how it can be the same band then! (It is like John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr left ‘The Beatles’ and there are four new singers calling themselves ‘The Beatles’. A music band is not a company, for God’s sake!)
Have you heard this song before? What do you think about it?
(If you want to read about my previous favourites you are invited here – song no.1 and song no.2 and song no.3)
I’ve heard of this group before, but this was the first of their songs I’d ever actually heard. I think they were (or are) mostly popular in the UK. In all my hours in American music shops, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a single Sugababes CD. I wonder sometimes why certain acts are popular in specific countries and not others.
It’s really not a bad song, though. I’d definitely take it over Britney Spears or Lady Gaga or whoever else is popular here these days.
Your comment on why certain acts are popular in specific countries was quite interesting, M—–l. It made me think.
On Britney Spears – I have heard only a few of her songs but I was really annoyed when most of her songs I heard had the same tune as ‘Baby one more time’. That is a good song, but it has been played to death.
I’m a music nerd and this sort of thing interests me. I investigated this band a bit more and it looks like they haven’t conquered America because they’ve never really had a proper American record label to do the promotion, distribution, etc. Most of their CDs are available over here (on Amazon), but at expensive import prices.
Oh, it is sad that they don’t have a proper American record label. But nice to know that their CDs are available in Amazon. Thanks to YouTube / DailyMotion, you can also listen to them online now 🙂
bizarre isn’t it.but really, they are like companies these days. marketed groups, especially in pop.
i always really liked their first single.
(ink + chai is no more)
That is really sad, Monica. From a music fan’s perspective, I am very disappointed that bands are turned into companies. Glad to know that you liked Sugababes’ first single.
I am really sad that ‘ink+chai’ is no more. I tried checking it now and it says that I need special permissions. What happened? Because I am a big fan of your blog and readers like me would love to read your thoughts on books. Are you planning to blog on books in ‘Bohemian Twilight’?
Hahaha, the band reminds me of my teenage years 😀 (the original members of the Sugababes that is, I think this songs was everywhere when I was about 15). I wasn’t a fan but liked this song, despite that horrible band name.
Glad to know that you like this song, Bina 🙂

I never took the band seriously because of the name. Now that I took a good look at their original line-up and I discover what a great rainbow to form a band! I like the concept but like you said a band is not a company. There has been a total of 6 different members and I have lost track who is who and that does no good for branding.
Although I will always remember Jade Ewen from Eurovision 2009 for the UK. A nice girl she is, too nice to be in company of these girls.
I like the song, it is nice. Thanks for recommending this!
Glad to know that you liked this song, Jo 🙂 Yes, the band’s name looks shaky, but some of their initial music was quite good.
Jade Ewen is nice – I heard her Eurovision 2009 song ‘It’s my time’ and it is quite nice.
